Delight in Spain's Stunning Catalonia

The very best of the Spanish Catalonian country and coast all wrapped up in one. We start with the inland delights of the little known Camprodon in the heart of the Girona Pyrenees, an area rich in history, tradition and versatility, where its fauna, landscapes, gastronomy make it a dynamic destination. After 4 nights here we transfer down to the coast but during this transfer we make time to visit the Dali Musuem in Figueres which serves as a gateway into Dali’s unique and captivating world. For the next 3 nights we will be centred in Tossa de Mar one of the busiest and most emblematic photographed towns on the Costa Brava. A landscape defined by cliffs, small coves that offer outstanding natural beauty with stunning sea vistas.

Location & Itinerary

The Pyrenees followed by the Costa Brava….what a lovely combination. In the Pyrenean section we get to visit the inland quaint old villages, stunning packhorse bridges, peaceful empty valleys and all sorts of open varied landscapes with good but sometimes rocky trails. It is here where fine deciduous trees make up secluded wooded glades for shade but as we peer out our eyes are drawn to a plethora long open vistas and hills. In Costa Brava, on the other hand we are spoilt by a very beautiful coastal footpath called the Costa Brava Way. We’ll criss- cross the mountains paths flanked by marvellous coastal cliffs topped with Mediterranean vegetation that shades us by using the dense canopy’s of pine, oak and cork tree woods. Yet we’ll also discover the infinite number of small stone or sandy caves and tight little sandy beaches.

With such a wealth of habitats and scenery our walking program is varied to say the least. Each day you can choose from two walks, either take it easy, walking 7-9 miles with between 300 & 1200ft of ascent, or push yourself a little, doing 8-12 miles with around 2000ft ascent (some hard walks require a good head for heights).

The Weather

The average temperatures for October are generally in the early 60 degrees leading to around 6 hours of sun per day but naturally it’s not unheard of for it to rain too. Therefore, you should protect yourself from the midday sun and drink lots of water, but it’s clever to layer up or down as it suits by packing some light fleeces and waterproofs just in case they are needed.

You need to have many of the same things with you, as you would have for a typical British spring day on the mountains. The following list is a suggestion of what you may wish to bring with you

You MUST have:

  • Walking boots
  • A Water bottle (minimum 1 litre, 2litre is much better)
  • A Rucksack with a plastic liner
  • Waterproofs: jacket and trousers
  • A Warm hat
  • Warm gloves (not leather)
  • Thick walking socks
  • Base layer: (thin thermal or warm T-shirt. Best not to be cotton as it gets cold when wet)
  • Over layer: (warm sweater or fleece)
  • Extra layer: warm top for when cold (e.g. when stopped for lunch)
  • Comfortable walking trousers (not jeans as they are too cold & heavy when wet)
  • Personal Medication
  • A torch for use in the tunnels
  • Smart casual clothes for the evening.
  • T shirts
  • Shorts
  • Swim wear
  • Sun tan lotion
  • Sun glasses

You may wish to bring:

  • Vacuum flask (if you like hot drinks on the hill)
  • Medium size Tupperware container or plastic bag, to put picnic lunch in.
  • Sit mat
  • Lip salve
  • Camera
  • Personal first aid kit
