For all-around skiing, Champoluc ticks all the boxes. The ski school is conveniently located at the top of the Crest lift, while the Frachey lift provides access to some fantastic blue runs. During the week, the slopes are incredibly quiet, often giving you the feeling of a private ski resort with no lift queues and fewer skiers than you might expect elsewhere, perfect for exploring the excellent selection of red runs across the area. You're also just a short ride on the free ski bus from the quiet slopes of Antagnod which is a great place to go for those wanting to start off nice and easy.

Location & Itinerary

Champoluc offers high-altitude skiing across 180km of pistes. The resort has an excellent snow record, stunning views and is ideal for intermediates and advanced skiers looking for off-piste opportunities. If you purchase a 6 day lift pass, you get a couple of days skiing in other Aosta Valley resorts.

Grading taken from Inghams website 04/08/25

For beginners

The best facilities for beginners are centres around the base stations at Champoluc, but they are limited. The gondola from Champoluc goes straight up to Crest, a mid-mountain nursery area with further gondolas and chair lifts feeding other areas. There is an Italian ski school available in-resort and you can pre-book your lessons, but advancing beyond the nursery slopes for absolute beginners can be a challenge.

For intermediates

Timid intermediates are better off starting at Frachey if they want to avoid some bumpy red runs. If you can tackle a blue run with confidence and feel like advancing on to reds to improve your skills then Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna is a great place to build up some confidence. The Monterosa resort is made up of a majority of red runs, varying in difficulty so you are sure to find something that suits your needs where ever you go.

For advanced

Champoluc is famous for its off-piste skiing. There are a variety of off-piste trails, both marked and unmarked and thanks to the snow-sureness of the Monterosa ski area and the relative emptiness of the resort during the week, there is sure to be untouched powder somewhere, just waiting to be skied through! In bad weather, head to the Mandria forest area about Frachey for powder.

There are also some facilities that are good for those with an interest in slalom racing- for a local price there are public race courses with time measurement at the Pain de la Sal piste.

Freestyle and terrain parks

Unfortunately there is no established freestyle park in the resort. A few rails, kickers and boxes are sometimes bought in but proceed with caution for these may be for private use.

Passport validity

For UK passport holders your passport must be:

  • Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
  • valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)

The rules of travel to most European countries have changed. Starting in the first half of 2025 UK citizens are required to have a travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay.

ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to a number of European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.

With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport (and other documents if required) and verify that you meet the entry conditions.

NB - There is no official date for the ETIAS currently confirmed but when it is introduced it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged this. We will update everyone when the ETIAS is required with information on how to apply for this online.

Travel Insurance

Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel. Spice Escapes have arranged a scheme with Staysure who are fully authorised and regulated by the FCA (firm reference number 663617) full details of which can be found on the FCA website www.fca.org.uk. Global Health Insurance Card

A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU).

UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.

Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.

NB – A GHIC/EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance!
