The Royal Clipper was inspired by the tall ship Preussen, the Royal Clipper is the largest and only five-masted full-rigged sailing ship in operation today. With 42 sails when fully rigged and carrying just 227 guests in luxurious style, the Royal Clipper is a splendid sight to behold.
For connoisseurs of sail cruising, the 134 metres Royal Clipper offers the ultimate sea-going experience, balancing the grandeur, adventure and tradition of sailing with the superb service, amenities and accommodations of the finest modern yacht. It has 1760 square metres of open deck and three swimming pools, a three-deck atrium that funnels sunlight into the elegantly appointed dining room, featuring deliciously prepared cuisine and a no-tie dress code.
A convenient marina platform lowers from the stern for water sports and the ultimate unique Royal Clipper experience, the one-of-a-kind Captain Nemo Lounge, is the site of a spa and health club with underwater glass portholes.
Life aboard is relaxed, like travelling on your own private yacht. You will never feel confined, with a wide choice of accommodation, expansive teak decks with ample space, 3 swimming pools and multiple bars.
Historically a Clipper was a mid-19th-century merchant sailing vessel, designed for speed, sailing globally primarily on trade routes between the United Kingdom and China. The British played a large part in the boom years, in 1843 as we loved our cuppa and brew, and us Brits wanted faster delivery of tea from China. The rest is history.
Location & Itinerary
Day to Day Itinerary
Day 1 – Departing from the UK you will arrive at Venice Marco Polo Airport and be met by Wings Italy. Enjoy a private water transfer across the lagoon to arrive at on of the islands jetty’s then it’s a short walk to the hotel. Depending on your flight arrival time rest of the day is free. In the evening there will be an option to enjoy a dinner cruise aboard a traditional Venetian Galleon https://www.jollyroger.it/galleon-dinner-cruise/ or you can do you own thing.
Day 2 – Following breakfast you are free to explore this very unique island at your own pace or join WingsItaly for a walk around. Andrea has lived in Venice so will be sure to have some interesting nuggets to share on the way before boarding the Royal Clipper and set sail!
Day 3 – Zadar, Croatia. Zadar is where the ancient and modern come together and coexist quite happily to create one of Dalmatia's most exciting towns. Zadar is a place to explore Roman ruins and Venetian architecture including its defensive walls which are now a World Heritage Site.
Day 4 – Hvar, Croatia. The heavenly scent of lavender perfumes the air in the fields and valleys around the island of Hvar. Idyllically located just off the Dalmatian Coast, the island and the little port named after it have been a favorite getaway ever since the time of the Romans, the Byzantines, the Venetians and even Austro-Hungarian royalty.
Day 5 – Dubrovnik, Croatia. It was George Bernard Shaw who said,'Those who seek paradise on earth should come to Dubrovnik.' Indeed, Dubrovnik is a treasure by any measure made more precious by its miraculous restoration. Crowned by the Minceta Tower, the 10th century city walls are the proud symbol of Dubrovnik's colourful history.
Day 6 – Kotor, Montenegro. This stunning rock-walled chasm splitting the coastal mountains of Montenegro is the longest arm of the sea in southern Europe. Boka harbours one of the prettiest, unspoiled towns you'll ever see, the medieval city of Kotor. Founded by the Romans, fortified during the Byzantine era, then ruled by Venice for much of its history, Kotor has been naturally preserved by its isolation.
Day 7 – Vis, Croatia. Vis Island has been described as a pearl among Croatian Adriatic Islands that has been left untouched by tourism for many years. As it develops it is becoming more and more popular particularly with yachtsmen. The island is known for it's many beautiful beaches as well as it's fascinating history. The town of Vis was founded in about 397 B.C. as a base for the Greek colonization of the Adriatic Sea.
Day 8 – Rovinj, Croatia. Rovinj is a typical example of a Mediterranean town. The town is dominated by the Baroque three-nave church of St. Euphemia (Fuma). Close to the harbour are the clock tower, the Baroque Balbi's Arch and the former 17th century Town Hall. To the east lies the complex of the Franciscan monastery and to the south, Rovinj's oldest monument, the Romanesque heptagonal chapel of the Holy Trinity.
Day 9 – Venice, Italy. Arrive back in Venice to disembark and head for the airport and your flights back to the UK.

Passport validity
For UK passport holders your passport must be:
- Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
- valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
The rules of travel to most European countries have changed. Starting in the first half of 2025 UK citizens are required to have a travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay.
ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to a number of European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.
With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport (and other documents if required) and verify that you meet the entry conditions.
NB - There is no official date for the ETIAS currently confirmed but when it is introduced it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged this. We will update everyone when the ETIAS is required with information on how to apply for this online.
Travel Insurance
Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel. Spice Escapes have arranged a scheme with Staysure who are fully authorised and regulated by the FCA (firm reference number 663617) full details of which can be found on the FCA website www.fca.org.uk. For an instant online quotation please click here.
A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU).
UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.
Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.
NB – A GHIC/EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance!
