Strasbourg and Colmar Long Weekend
Join Steve & Arlene Dell for a long weekend discovering the two beautiful French cities of Strasbourg and Colmar.
The two beautiful French cities of Strasbourg and Colmar are both ‘must see’ destinations with historic, medieval buildings, grand cathedrals, pretty cobbled streets, picturesque canals and generally charming places.
We stay in a central hotel in Strasbourg , a short walk from the railway station in the heart of historic Strasbourg, which makes it easier once arrived, to move around Strasbourg and to travel to Colmar.
We travel to Strasbourg on the Thursday (based on flights days) where Steve will take us on a familiarisation walk around part of Strasbourg. On the Friday and Saturday there will be a coordinated itinerary in Strasbourg and Colmar (depending on train times Colmar may be on the Friday and Saturday). We will have the Sunday morning for some last sightseeing.
There will be group meal options each evening.
See the Sample Itinerary for ideas of what will be included in the programme.

Strasbourg is the capital city of the Grand Est region, formerly Alsace, in northeastern France. It's also the formal seat of the European Parliament and sits near the German border, with culture and architecture blending German and French influences. Its Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame features daily shows from its astronomical clock and sweeping views of the Rhine River from partway up its 142m spire. As you would expect with a city of this calibre, there are several museums, pretty streets and a whole host of visitor attractions.
Colmar is a city in the Grand Est region of northeastern France, near the border with Germany. Its old town has cobblestone streets lined with half-timbered medieval and early Renaissance buildings. The Gothic 13th-century, Eglise Saint-Martin church stands on central Place de la Cathédrale. The city is on the Alsace Wine Route, and local vineyards specialize in Riesling and Gewürztraminer wines. Known for its charming, fairytale-like atmosphere and well-preserved medieval architecture. It's known for its picturesque canals, half-timbered houses, and vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular choice for those seeking a visually appealing experience.

Travel & Stay
We stay at the Best Western Plus Hôtel Monopole Métropole which has an average of 4.3 to 4.5 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor / Google. The hotel is a short walk from Strasbourg station.
About the hotel: Hôtel Monopole is situated a short walk from the railway station in the heart of historic Strasbourg. Many of the iconic areas and attractions are walking distance. The hotel, in a charming 19th-century building, is an invitation to immerse yourself in a world where traditional Alsatian features blend with a stylish modern décor. A warm welcome, comfort and all modern conveniences await you, with 81 bright, air-conditioned rooms, two lounges and a bar, as well as a fitness room to help you unwind. Here is a link to the hotel’s website
The single supplement is higher than usual as they are doubles for sole occupancy.
Travel isn't included to allow flexibility. There are two options: Flying or Eurostar to Paris and then a train to Strasbourg. The hotel is walking distance from Strasbourg station.
Flying: currently, the only flying option is easyJet from Gatwick to Strasbourg. Here is a link to the easyJet website Flying is the quickest and cheapest. It’s an easy transfer from Strasbourg airport to the city by train. The current flight times are…
Outbound: 12:35 from Gatwick
Return: 16:10 from Strasbourg
Flight times can be subject to change
Steve and Arlene are flying so if you wanted to travel with the group, book these flights.
Eurostar: This gives the greatest flexibility but takes the longest and is more expensive. There are several trains to Paris and a regular service from Paris to Strasbourg. Both legs need to be booked in advance and as with the flight, prices generally only go one way! There is a short walk from Paris Gare du Nord (Eurostar) to Gare de l'Est (for Strasbourg).
We recommend that any travel is booked with a credit card as this has built in protection if anything happens to the airline or travel company.
