Balearic Island of Menorca Walking with WalkWise
Discover Menorca with WalkWise International
This year WalkWise is delighted to offer the charming Balearic Island of Menorca. What a gem she is too with her privileged position situated as the eastern most Balearic Island in the centre of the western Mediterranean. Using the same model as many of the winter sun holidays we will eat in a couple of nights and enjoy the restaurants in the harbour on other nights. It is such an attractive a destination for many reasons, including its natural beauty where a peaceful tranquil atmosphere reverberates in an unhurried world surrounded by water and under an oft-intense blue sky. In fact, it is so important that it now celebrates over 25 years as a UNESCO Bioshere Reserve to ensure its natural habitat for generations to come. We will stay in the small city capital of Maó (Mahón), emanating from the large vibrant natural port which has provided a gateway for travellers since the dawn of time. Its legacy has left an eclectic mix of charm, culture and history. The walking will combine all the afore mentioned attributes and deliver a feast for thine eyes along the rugged fringed coast exploring its numerous beaches, coves and caves.

Location & Itinerary
Impressive Walking:
You’re going to enjoy this one. Menorca’s walking tapestry is one of rugged coastline and natural charms. We will make the most of the unique Cami de Cavalls that circumnavigates the island –an ancient bridleway used by horsemen of many nationalities as a look out for the island to intercept enemies – now used as a great route to allow hikers access to the coast. We’ll pass by the ancient monuments also revealing the secrets of the past. But don’t be fooled, as although this island isn’t like the steep volcanic areas of the Canary Islands it is deceivingly rugged and undulates along its natural coastline. Everywhere we walk we will weave our way past whitewashed buildings revealing hidden coves and beaches and boat houses along the way. They say that walking on Menorca isn’t just exercise for the body it is nourishment for the soul too, so let’s get out there and discover all the island has to offer. There is everything available here from demanding hard walks to fine moderate walks which will also challenge us due to the nature and length of the walks; basically all we could want from a walking holiday.
Remember there will always be 2 walks to choose from each day, you can either take it moderate with walks of between something like 8-10 miles or push yourself a little, doing 10-13 miles (some hard walks require a good head for heights).

Passport validity
For UK passport holders your passport must be:
- Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
- valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
- You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.
Travel Insurance
Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel.
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)
The rules of travel to most European countries have changed. Starting in the first half of 2025 UK citizens are required to have a travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay.
ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to a number of European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.
With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport (and other documents if required) and verify that you meet the entry conditions.
NB - There is no official date for the ETIAS currently confirmed but when it is introduced it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged this. We will update everyone when the ETIAS is required with information on how to apply for this online.
A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU).
UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.
Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.
NB – A GHIC/EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance!
