LOCAL SIGHTSEEING

Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort is idyllically located on the outskirts of the quaint and photogenic fishing village of Sissi near the ancient town of Malia and its Minoan Palace of 2000 B.C. The resort itself is situated along a mile-long pristine sandy beach with its many enticing coves and exquisite sunsets. The area is steeped in history and it is also 35 minutes to the legendary Minoan, Knossos Palace.

FISHERMEN'S VILLAGE OF SISSI

The former fishermen’s village of Sissi has remained untouched all these years for a long time. Around the small village centre and the picturesque little port you will find shops, taverns and kafenions (the traditional Greek coffeehouse). Its clean beaches with their warm and calm waters invites you for a swim. Nature lovers can follow biking or trekking paths enjoying the wonderful landscape around Sissi.

Knossos Palace, is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and probably the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture.

 SPINALONGA

The island of Spinalonga (official name: Kalidon) is located at the eastern section of Crete, near the town of Elounda. The name of the island, Spinalonga, is Venetian, meaning “long thorn”, and has roots in the period of Venetian occupation.

The palace of Malia, dating from the Middle Bronze Age, was destroyed by an earthquake during the Late Bronze Age; the palace was later rebuilt toward the end of the Late Bronze Age.

This excursion is a trip through several villages to the Dikti mountains 1050m height to the Lassithi Plateau. In this route the you will have the opportunity to admire the most wild and beautiful countryside as well as the windmills.

 MONASTERY OF ST. GEORGE SELINARIS

At the side of the gorge of Selinari, is the small old chapel and the newly founded monastery of Agios Georgios Selinaris. The small chapel was probably founded early in the 16th century AD, and ever since it is a place of worshipping and people passing through the chapel stop to light a candle to the saint. The chapel is considered miraculous, there are various legends concerning miracles related either with healing of sick people or with divine punishment of people that did not pay the respect due to the saint.

Kalimera Kriti Hotel & Village Resort

ROOM/BUNGALOW MOUNTAIN/GARDEN VIEW

Located either in the bungalow villages or in the main building, they consist of one bedroom furnished in traditional Cretan style with sitting-corner, some with sofa-bed, writing desk, air conditioning/heating (individually controlled in the bungalows), satellite TV, safe deposit box, mini-bar, most with magnifying mirror, hairdryer, slippers, toiletries and a balcony or terrace that offers a view to the resort’s landscaped gardens.

NB - These rooms are allocated by the resort and while you can request either a room in the main building or a bungalow this is not guaranteed and Spice Escapes have no control over the allocation of rooms.

BUNGALOW SEA VIEW

Located in the bungalow villages, they consist of one bedroom furnished in traditional Cretan style with sitting-corner, some with an extra sofa-bed, writing desk, individually controlled air conditioning/heating, satellite TV, safe deposit box, mini-bar, magnifying mirror, hairdryer, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries and a balcony or terrace, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the amazing view of the Cretan Sea.

DELUXE ROOM SEA VIEW

The deluxe rooms located in the main building, feature one elegantly decorated bedroom, a bathroom with separate walk-in shower and separate wc, air conditioning/heating, electronic safe deposit box, mini-bar, satellite TV, magnifying mirror, hairdryer, slippers, bathrobes, toiletries and a balcony that offers a breath-taking view of the sea. (fully renovated in 2017/2018)

Passport validity

For UK passport holders your passport must be:

• Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
• valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System)

The rules of travel to most European countries have changed. Starting in the first half of 2025 UK citizens are required to have a travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay.

ETIAS travel authorisation is an entry requirement for visa-exempt nationals travelling to a number of European countries. It is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation.

With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport (and other documents if required) and verify that you meet the entry conditions.

NB - There is no official date for the ETIAS currently confirmed but when it is introduced it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged this. We will update everyone when the ETIAS is required with information on how to apply for this online.

Travel Insurance

Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel. Global Health Insurance Card

A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU).

UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.

Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.

NB – A GHIC/EHIC is not a replacement for travel insurance!
