Overview
Spice Escapes would like to introduce to you Lake Maggiore, Italy’s second largest lake that lies in two countries at once. It is less glitzy than Lake Como, less crowded than Lake Garda and has a mild climate. The tip of the lake is in Switzerland and the bottom is in Italy. The rich Mediterranean vegetation with magnificent, majestic mountain gives this area access to stunning valleys and some wonderful exploring possibilities.
In the Italian part of the lake one of the main tourist resorts is Stresa. Situated in an ideal position on the shores of the Borromean Gulf, Stresa overlooks the unique Isola Bella. Visiting Stresa today it is hard to believe it was once a tiny fishing hamlet (recorded for the first time in 998AD) occupying a narrow strip of land only accessible by a dusty old roman road.

Or, Immerse yourself in the local culture by visiting historic sites, museums, and art galleries. The region is rich in history, and you can explore ancient castles, churches, and museums that showcase the artistic and cultural heritage of Lake Maggiore.
Location & Itinerary
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Milan Bergamo airport where you'll be met with your transport to your hotel.
Day 2: Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore promenade to soak in the stunning views. Then, in the afternoon, visit Isola Bella and explore the beautiful Borromeo Palace and its magnificent gardens.
Day 3: Visit Isola Madre, known for its botanical gardens and historical buildings. Enjoy the stunning sights of the beautiful gardens and fully immerse yourself in the wonderful rich historic culture.
Day 4: Take a cable car or hike up to Mottarone for breath-taking panoramic views of Lake Maggiore and the surrounding Alps. Enjoy a light lunch at the mountaintop restaurant.
Day 5: Explore the Church of Saint Ambrose and the Santa Caterina del Sasso hermitage.
Day 6: Travel back via transfer to Milan Bergamo airport and prepare for your flight back to the UK.
Travel & Stay

UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.
Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.
