As a retirement present to myself I booked the Spice trip to Cuba… to kick off my new life!! I haven’t travelled abroad very much and was a tad nervous as I didn’t know anyone who was going on the trip!
I really didn’t need to worry… all the joining/meeting up instructions were clear and easily followed and included lots of info about the areas we were visiting and tips on best things to buy etc! The trip coordinator met me at the airport and introduced me to some of my fellow travellers!
Things just got better and better. The hotel in Havana was lovely, and once we had settled in our rooms we all met up for a Mojito and to find out more about any optional excursions and of course trips into town in the amazing American cars that the town is well know for.
Of course we visited some of Hemingway’s haunts so that we could sample a Daiquiri or two! The transfer to the beach resort included a stop for a Pina Colada made in a pineapple (we had quite a few of these during the course of the holiday both with and without Rum!!).
I had a wonderful time! I always felt safe and part of the group but I was also free to do my own thing if I chose! I made lots if new friends, some of whom I still meet up with a couple of times a year.
If you are not sure about a holiday on your own do think about booking a Spice Escapes holiday, you won’t regret it!
