MSC Virtuosa’s namesake comes from the word virtuoso, meaning someone highly skilled in any field of activity, and so MSC Virtuosa was named to pay homage to the skill and expertise of the MSC Cruises architects and shipyard partners at Les Chantiers de l’Atlantique who designed and built this innovative class of ships. The start of this holiday is Southampton.
The Port of Southampton has five dedicated cruise terminals; City Cruise, Horizon, Mayflower, Ocean, and QEII. Our information is that currently this cruise will use Horizon Terminal.
Getting to Your Cruise Ship
Horizon Cruise Terminal: Berth 102 West Bay Road, Southampton, SO15 1AW
Access to the terminal is via Dock Gate 10.
Both Southampton Railway Station & coach station are just over a mile from the terminal building. Whilst it is easily walkable, it’s very busy around the docks, so we would recommend catching a taxi. There is a dedicated taxi rank outside the Arrivals Hall.
Southampton Airport is 5 miles away. You can get into Southampton from the airport either by taxi, or on the train.
Driving there yourself? You’ll arrive in Southampton via the M3 and M27, and there are clear signposts to the Docks.
Long stay parking you’ll need to book through ABParking – and the car park for this is adjacent to the terminal building.
Accommodation Before or After Your Cruise
If you are planning to stay in Southampton before or after your cruise, there are a number of accommodation options across the city to meet all budgets and requirements from budget hotels through to five-star luxury accommodation. There are many places to stay that are a short walk or a quick taxi ride from the cruise terminals, offering you convenience and proximity to many of Southampton’s attractions as well.

Passport validity
For UK passport holders your passport must be:
- Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
- valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)
You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU).
UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU.
Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC.

All bookings are provisional until you receive a booking confirmation email. If you are booking a twin share cabin we will only confirm your booking once we have another person to share the cabin with you.
