Sailing on a Clipper takes you back to the glamorous sailing of yesteryear. Conceived by a British designer, the ships interior is Edwardian and old navy style. Historically a Clipper was a mid-19th-century merchant sailing vessel, designed for speed, sailing globally primarily on trade routes between the United Kingdom and China. The British played a large part in the boom years, in 1843 as we loved our cuppa and brew, and us Brits wanted faster delivery of tea from China. The rest is history.

There is so much to do, there is a marina platform which conveniently lowers clients for diving and water sports.

The friendly professional Water Sports team can help you enjoy adventures such as snorkelling.

Morning gymnastic classes, enjoying one of the on-board pools, or taking part in the ships organised shore excursions.

Barbecues, limbos, scavenger hunts, talent night, fashion shows and other activities that are included in the schedule.

Be A Sailor for the day, high above the deck, lookout stations have been created at the first yardarm on each of the masts, equipped with high safety rails, and a comfortable teak settee for lounging at ease, passengers can observe all the action below. If you wish to climb to the lookout posts slip on a ship supplied safety vest tethered to a watchful crew member on the deck, who keeps the safety line secured as you make the easy ascent up one of the ratlines.

Provisional itinerary

Day 1 - Depart the UK and Arrive in Rome where your adventure begins with a private transfer to down town Rome, the eternal city, to check in to the hotel. We will head out for dinner this evening depending on flight times in the company of your hosts WingsItaly (not included).

Day 2 - After breakfast you depart the hotel and it’s off to Ostia, a Roman seaside town. Ostia was once the home of the largest Navy in the world, the Romans, and, as always with WingsItaly Ostia is real Italy which is sadly often missed by travellers.

The first stop is the famous Roman Antica, a large archaeological site noted for the excellent preservation of its ancient buildings, magnificent frescoes and impressive mosaics. The site is often compared to Pompei but without the crowds, just you and the cobbled streets of an Ancient Roman town waiting to be discovered.

Then after the tour we will head off to Ostia’s promenade for an optional swim at a lido, walk, browse and lunch (not included).

Departing Ostia at approximately 4 30pm it’s off to the harbour and our Clipper the Star Flyer to embark and prepare to sail! at 10pm

Day 3 - At Sea

Day 4 - Lipari - Aeolian Islands, Italy Arr 10:00 AM Dep 6:30 PM

Day 5 - Messina - Sicily, Italy Arr 8:00 AM Dep 5:00 PM

Day 6 - Amalfi, Italy Arr 3:00 PM Dep 11:30 PM

Day 7 - Sorrento, Italy Arr 8:00 AM Dep 10:00 PM

Day 8 - Ponza - Pontine Islands, Italy Arr 9:00 AM Dep 3:00 PM

Day 9 – Breakfast and disembark. Flights are not scheduled until late afternoon so we will enjoy a leisurely lunch (not included) before head to the airport.

Note this adventure is by sea, itinerary’s may change due to the weather conditions and or conditions which are out of our control.

Whist the cruise is providing an itinerary including many of the wonderful hot spots of Italy, we are adding in an excursion to Ostia, prior to joining the ship. Ostia is a typical Real Roman seaside town, mainly frequented by the locals with little to no mainstream tourism and, in line with this adventure it was once the home the largest sailing Navy ever.

During the cruise, in addition to the Star Clipper’s organised excursions, WingsItaly your Italian hosts may be able to organise other spontaneous excursions to places, hidden gems very rarely visited by tourists, some free, or some may incur a cost. It is important to stress a highly level spontaneity is required on WingsItaly adventures.
