Let’s head off to the spectacular Sorrento Peninsula & Amalfi Coast where the cliffs dive into turquoise seas with crystal clear waves. This is where Ulysses is said to have tempted the famous Mermaids and where we will explore the awesome landscape of hidden coves and breath-taking views. This is where we will not only take in the rugged green hills for our walks but also enjoy the art, culture monuments, churches, café and cuisine of the Sorrento Peninsula. We will be staying in Massa Lubrense which is the greenest of the six towns on the Sorrento coast. A place where Mediterranean vegetation lines the winding footpaths through ancient hamlets that lead on through lemon orchards and olive, chestnut and oak groves.

Where you'll go
Impressive Walking:
The walks will as always try to capture the very best of this stupendous walking area between Sorrento and Amalfi. With an ancient pathway known as the ‘path of the gods’ we’ll be in fine company and pay homage to the likes of Goethe and Byron who also found this area encaptivating for their Grand Tours of the 18th Century. Today it’s no less enchanting and I’m sure the paths are even better! We’ve designed the walks so that each of them gains the very best of the area reaching out to Positano which is perched precariously on the side of the cliff in the Lammari mountains. Narrowly stepped alleys wend their way between pastel-coloured houses and picturesque shops. Another day we intend to head to the Isle of Capri to enjoy its enchanting environs. On other days we’ll enjoy the area closer to the hotel and make our way via delightful paths and tracks along to the end of the peninsula itself. What ever we choose the Sorrento and Amalfi coastlines are home to incredibly rich and varied flora and fauna including rare ferns, swooping peregrine falcons and the shy but endemic spectacled salamander.
Each day there will be a minimum of two walks. A moderate one of 8 miles 1,500ft and harder one around 10 miles or possibly more and often double or more of that ascent (some walks require a good head for heights). Generally when in Europe some of the routes may use chairlifts, gondolas, cable cars plus public and private coaches. On this trip we may decide to use private coaches to the start of the walks and where possible public buses back, when we have had enough? We will also probably catch a ferry to Capri plus a funicular maybe used too on one of the walks?

Travel and where you'll stay
Hotel delle Palme, Corto Sant’Agusta, 32/36, 80064 Massa Lubrense, Napoli
We will experience a wonderful and unique stay at the Hotel Delle Palme **** which is situated in a strategic position on the spectacular ridge of the Sorrento Peninsula. It enjoys breathtaking, panoramic vistas towards, on one hand to the Gulf of Naples and the other the Gulf of Salerno. Due to its elevated location at around 1,300ft above sea level it enjoys a mild and fresh climate. Its pool is set in large gardens and the hotel is well within walking distance to explore the village centre. The hotel itself is elegantly furnished as are the rooms which are equipped with televisions, air-conditioning, hair dryers and mini bars! Wifi is complimentary.
Please note - most rooms for single occupancy are double/twins, however there are couple of 'proper' single rooms (single bed and smaller room size) which have a lower supplement.

Weather when you go
October is a great time to visit Amalfi, offering mild weather with daytime temperatures averaging 18–24°C, fewer crowds, and a chance for a final swim. However, visitors should expect occasional rain showers and cooler evenings, so packing layers and an umbrella or raincoat is recommended.
Passport validity
For UK passport holders your passport must be:
- issued less than 10 years before the day you enter (check the "date of issue")
- valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the "expiry date")

Entry rules for EU travel — EES, ETIAS and your GHIC
EU Entry/Exit System (EES)
The Entry/Exit System (EES) is being introduced gradually across the external borders of the European countries that use it, including the collection of biometric data such as a facial image and fingerprints. Passports continue to be stamped as usual in the meantime.

ETIAS
UK citizens will eventually need a travel authorisation (ETIAS) to enter the European countries that require it for short stays. It is linked to your passport and valid for up to three years. There is no confirmed start date yet — we will let everyone know when it is required and how to apply.
Global Health Insurance Card
A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), or a still-valid EHIC, gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the EU. It is not a replacement for travel insurance.
Travel insurance
Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel. You should get the bracket of insurance between 2,500-2,999m (or 9,840ft) i.e. up to but not including 3,000m EU Entry/Exit System (EES) The new Entry/Exit System (EES) will start operations on 12 October 2025. The Entry/Exit System (EES) will be deployed gradually across the external borders of the 29 European countries over a period of 6 months. These European countries will introduce the different elements of the EES in phases, including the collection of biometric data, such as facial image and fingerprints. This means that travellers’ biometric data (facial image and fingerprints) might not be collected at every border crossing point right away, and their personal information may not be registered in the system. Passports will continue to be stamped as usual. This progressive implementation will last until 9 April 2026. From 10 April 2026, the EES will be fully operational at all external border crossing points of the European countries using the system. Further information on the EES can be found on the following link - https://travel-europe.europa.eu/ees/ltr ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) Starting in end 2026 UK citizens are required to have a travel authorisation to enter 30 European countries for a short stay. ETIAS travel authorisation is linked to a traveller’s passport. It is valid for up to three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. If you get a new passport, you need to get a new ETIAS travel authorisation. With a valid ETIAS travel authorisation, you can enter the territory of these European countries as often as you want for short-term stays - normally for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, it does not guarantee entry. When you arrive, a border guard will ask to see your passport and other documents and verify that you meet the entry conditions. NB - There is no official date for the ETIAS currently confirmed but when it is introduced it will be your responsibility to ensure that you have arranged this. We will update everyone when the ETIAS is required with information on how to apply for this online. Global Health Insurance Card A UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) gives you the right to access state-provided healthcare during a temporary stay in the European Union (EU). UK-issued European Health Insurance Cards (EHICs) are still valid and offer the same cover as GHICs in the EU. Once your EHIC has expired, you’ll be able to replace it with a GHIC. Before you book
Will I be the only one on my own?
No. Almost everyone books on their own — that is the whole point of the trip. Nobody has to pair up and nobody sits on their own at dinner unless they want to.
Do I have to share a room?
Only if you want to. Sharing a twin with another solo traveller of the same sex costs nothing extra, and it is how most people keep the price down. If you would rather have a room to yourself, you can — see the single-room price on the trip you are looking at.
Is there a single supplement?
There is a charge for a room of your own and it varies a great deal by trip, so the honest answer is the figure on the holiday you are looking at rather than an average. What there is not is any obligation to pay it: sharing a twin with another solo traveller of the same sex costs nothing extra, and it is a genuine option rather than a token one.

How big is the group?
Small enough to learn everyone’s name in the first day or two. Group sizes vary by trip and are listed on each holiday.
What does the host actually do?
Your host is there to make your holiday feel easy, welcoming and fun. They travel with the group throughout the trip, help everyone get to know each other, keep things running smoothly and are there if you need anything along the way.
They’re not a traditional holiday rep — they’re part of the group, sharing the experience with you and helping make sure nobody feels left out.

Yes. Payments are held in a bonded trust account and the holidays are ATOL protected under licence 9046.
What age are the other travellers?
It varies by trip. Most groups span a wide range of ages with a shared interest in the destination rather than a shared birth year.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes — 18. Spice Escapes holidays are adults only.
Most people who travel with us are in their forties and beyond, but that is who books rather than a rule. There is no upper age limit, and two people travelling together do not need to be a similar age: a daughter in her thirties travelling with her mother in her sixties is an ordinary booking.
