Spice runs hosted ski weeks for people booking on their own, with a place in a shared twin room at the price shown and breakfast and dinner in the hotel with the group. The ski weeks are in Tignes, Les Arcs and Morzine in the French Alps, Madonna in the Italian Dolomites and Baqueira in the Spanish Pyrenees. Morzine starts at £1,199.
Solo ski holidays for beginners
Les Arcs is the one to look at if you are new to skiing. It sells a week of morning ski school as an extra, at every level from complete beginner upwards, booked with the holiday so it is waiting for you on the first morning.
The other ski weeks assume you can already ski or board. Baqueira's guided mornings are for skiers who want to be shown the mountain, rather than lessons. If you are somewhere in between, tell us your level before you book and we will say which week fits.
What costs extra
Lift passes and ski or board hire are extra on every ski week, and so is carrying skis on the flight. Each holiday lists them, so you can add up the real cost before you commit. The from-price on Tignes, Morzine and Baqueira is for arranging your own flights; the same weeks with flights from UK airports are priced on each page. Les Arcs and Madonna are sold with flights.
Resort transfers and the hotel are in the price. Baqueira also includes hold luggage, and Les Arcs is full board, so lunch is covered too.
When to go
Tignes, Les Arcs, Madonna and Morzine fall within a few weeks of each other early in the year, one after another. Baqueira is the late-season week, when the days are longer. Travel insurance is extra on all of them, and each holiday says what cover it expects you to have for skiing.
Getting there
Tignes and Morzine fly into Geneva, Les Arcs into Chambéry, Madonna into Verona and Baqueira into Barcelona, with the transfer up to the resort included. Departure airports differ by week: Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham appear on most, Edinburgh on Tignes, Morzine and Madonna, and Heathrow, Luton and Stansted on Baqueira. Each holiday lists its flight times.
If you snowboard, say so when you book, so that the hire and any lessons are for a board rather than skis.
Who comes, and what the host does
Almost everybody has booked on their own, some come with a friend, and there is no upper age limit. Skiers of different levels spend the day on different runs, and every one of these weeks is catered, so dinner is where the group is together. A named host travels with each group: Jackie Whyte in Tignes, Lauren Fawkes in Les Arcs, Jamie Morris in Madonna and Rob Thompson in Baqueira.
Rooms
Sharing a twin with another guest of the same sex costs nothing on top of the price shown. Two friends booking together can take a twin, and Tignes, Les Arcs and Morzine also sell a double for two. A room to yourself carries a supplement set on each holiday, and single rooms go early on ski weeks, so check the holiday page for what is left.
Winter trips without skiing
