On a Spice cruise you can share a twin cabin with another solo traveller of the same sex for nothing extra, or pay a supplement for a cabin to yourself. Prices start at £929. You sail as part of a small Spice group with a named host, so there is always a table to join at dinner.
Twin share or a cabin to yourself
The price shown on each cruise buys a place in a shared twin cabin. On the two big-ship sailings, the Mediterranean and the Norwegian fjords, that is an inside cabin; sea-view and balcony cabins cost more, shared or not. A cabin to yourself carries a supplement that changes with the ship and the cabin grade, and each holiday page shows the figure and whether it is still open.
Cabins for one sell out first on several of these sailings, while twin places are still open. If the cabin you want has gone, ask us before you rule the cruise out. The Ganges river cruise also sells a women-only twin share, and the Maldives trip has offered one too. Two friends booking together can take a twin between them, and some ships sell a double.

What is in the price
Every meal on the ship is included on all of them. Beyond that they differ, so read the list on each holiday before comparing prices:
- Drinks: the Ganges cruise has an all-inclusive drinks package until 11.30pm, Venice includes drinks with meals and at the bar, and the Mediterranean sailing includes a drinks package with wine, beer, cocktails and coffee.
- Tips: gratuities are included on the Ganges and Mediterranean cruises, and group tips on the Maldives trip. On the Norwegian cruise a daily service charge is added to your onboard account unless you upgrade your fare.
- Port charges: covered on Venice, the Mediterranean and the fjords, and local taxes on the Maldives.
- Shore excursions: included with guides and entrance fees on the Ganges; offered as extras on Venice.
Solo cruises from the UK
Summertime Fjordland sails from London, so there is no flight at either end. A return coach from London Victoria and parking at the port are both offered as extras on the holiday. Every other cruise here starts with a flight, and the Mediterranean one adds a night in a central Rome hotel before the ship.
Who sails, and what the host does
Almost everybody in a Spice group has booked on their own, and some come with a friend. The host sails with the group from start to finish: Pam Harte on the fjords, Claire Dymond on the Ganges, and Jonathan Banks in the Maldives. The Mediterranean sailing is hosted by Andrea and Claire of WingsItaly, who meet the group in Rome. The host is the person who gets the group round one table at dinner, and the one to ask if you would rather sit elsewhere.
Choosing between them
For a first cruise, Venice is the shortest and has everything on board paid for. For no airports, choose the fjords. The Ganges and the Maldives are long-haul and suit people who want the ship to be a way into a place: the Ganges includes guided shore visits, and the Maldives spends its second half on an island. If a cabin to yourself matters more than the destination, ask us which sailings still have one.
