What a Spice walking week is actually like

A walking week here is seven nights based in one place. You unpack once and walk out from the same door each morning, which is a different proposition from a point-to-point trek with your bags following you about. Most of them are led by WalkWise’s professional mountain guides, who put on two walks a day — a harder one and an easier one — so a group of mixed pace stays one group instead of splitting into the fast and the apologetic. You should be reasonably fit. Every holiday on this page sets out its days in the itinerary before you book, and a walking week is what it sounds like: long days on your feet, on uneven ground, with real ascent. Nobody is timed and nobody is left behind, but these are not gentle strolls, and we would rather say so here than have you find out on the first morning. Breakfast is included on every one of them, and the guided weeks add picnic lunches on the days you walk. Evening meals vary from a couple of nights to all seven, and the local transport out to the walks is usually paid in resort rather than in the price — each holiday lists its own. Sharing a twin with another walker of the same sex costs nothing on top of the price shown.

    Wow - what a fabulous trip to Cantabria, Northern Spain! The combination of Spice and Walkwise was superb. The home-cooked food was absolutely fantastic, accommodation lovely and homely and organisation with transport to the walks excellent. Very relaxing week with a small group of people all doing the same walk every day which I enjoyed - and the combination of coastal and foothills walks made this a superb holiday in a wonderful location.
