Spice has been arranging holidays for people who travel on their own for 45 years, and does not sort them by age. What we do publish, on every holiday, is how much it asks of you, how many people will be on it, what a room to yourself costs and who is meeting you at the airport.

Is there an upper age limit?

No. Spice holidays are adults only, the minimum age is 18 and there is no upper limit. Most people who travel with us are in their forties and beyond, but that is who books rather than a rule.

We do not publish an age breakdown for each departure, because we would be guessing at it. What is true of every one of them is that almost everybody has booked on their own, so nobody arrives as the odd one out.

How much walking is involved?

It depends on the holiday, and the holiday says so: the itinerary on each page sets out what the days actually involve, day by day, rather than reducing a week to one word.

We do not grade holidays easy or hard, because one person's gentle stroll is another's long morning. If you want to know what a particular day asks of you, ask. The host has done that trip before and will tell you plainly.

The price on every holiday buys a place in a twin room shared with another solo traveller of the same sex, and sharing costs nothing extra. A room to yourself carries a single supplement that differs on every holiday.

Single rooms and single supplements publishes the figure for every holiday that has one available, and says plainly which have not published one at all.

What people ask us first

Is there an upper age limit on a Spice Escapes holiday?

No. The holidays are adults only with a minimum age of 18, and there is no upper age limit.

Will I be the oldest person there?

We cannot promise you an age mix, and we do not publish one, because it would be a guess. What we can tell you is that almost everybody on the holiday has booked on their own, and that groups are small enough to learn everybody’s name in a day or two.

How do I know a holiday will not be too strenuous?

We do not grade them, because a grading flattens exactly the thing you are asking about — one person's gentle stroll is another's long morning. What each day involves is set out in the itinerary on the holiday's own page, and the host has done the trip before, so ask them: you will get a straight answer about the ground, the distances and how much of it is optional.

How big is the group?

Small, and the figure is published on each holiday rather than promised in general — it comes from the operator's own booking count, and 32 of the 32 holidays on sale carry one today. A named host travels with every group.

Do I have to share a room with a stranger?

Only if you would like to. Sharing a twin with another solo traveller of the same sex costs nothing on top of the price shown. A room to yourself carries a single supplement, and every holiday that has one available publishes the figure.

Is this a singles or dating company?

No. Spice Escapes runs hosted group holidays for people who travel on their own. Nobody is paired off, and plenty of travellers are married to somebody who would simply rather not go.
