Ski holiday without your partner: a hosted group week on the snow

3 October 2026 · 6 min read

If you love skiing and your partner does not, a ski holiday without your partner is a perfectly sensible answer, and it does not have to mean a week on your own. Spice Escapes runs hosted ski weeks where you travel with a small group, a host is with you from the first evening, and you have people to ski with by day and eat with at night while your partner enjoys a week at home.

When one of you skis and the other one does not

It is one of the most common stand-offs in a couple. One of you counts down to the first snow reports. The other one tried it once, hated the boots, and would rather never see a chairlift again. Or the knees have had enough, or the cold has never appealed, or the cost of two lift passes and two lots of hire for one keen skier felt hard to justify.

So skiing quietly drops off the calendar. Waiting for friends to organise a trip rarely works either.

There is a simpler way. You go skiing, your partner stays home or does something they prefer, and you come back happy, tired and full of stories.

Why a hosted group works better than going alone

Booking a ski week entirely on your own is possible, but skiing is an odd thing to do alone. You queue for lifts with no one to compare notes with, you eat dinner at a table for one, and if the weather closes in there is nobody to sit out the afternoon with over a hot chocolate.

On a Spice Escapes ski holiday you travel with a group of around fifteen people, and some reach twenty. Most people book on their own, so you will not be the only one without a partner beside you, and nobody asks why yours stayed at home. The host knows the resort, helps people find others who ski at a similar standard, and sits down with everyone at dinner. You can ski with the group, with one or two people you click with, or by yourself for a morning, and come back to company in the evening.

That tends to reassure a partner at home, too. There is a host, a hotel chosen for the group, and people who will notice if you miss breakfast.

If this is your first trip of any kind without your other half, our guide for first-time solo travellers covers the practical side, and our piece on holidays without your husband talks about the conversation at home.

Five hosted ski weeks to go on without your partner

Each of these is a week in a hotel picked for the group, close to the lifts, with a host who knows the resort. They are listed under our ski and winter holidays, and three of them are in France.

Les Arcs: a big ski area and a sociable hotel

Ski Les Arcs is 7 nights at Hotel Les Mélèzes, 70 metres from the slopes, on full board, so there is no hunting for dinner after a day on the mountain. The Paradiski area covers 425km, with ski schools for every level if you want lessons while you are away.

The hotel has a sun terrace with views towards Mont Blanc, a bar, a lounge, a games room and evening entertainment, which is where a ski group turns into good company. Lauren Fawkes hosts. Dates: 23 Jan 2027 – 30 Jan 2027. From £1,509, with 6 places left.

Tignes: for the keen skier who has been waiting

If your partner has kept you off the mountain for years and your legs are ready for it, Ski Tignes links Tignes and Val d'Isère into more than 300km of slopes, with long blue and red runs from the Grande Motte glacier. It is better suited to intermediates and above than to complete beginners.

You stay at Hotel Le Diva in Val Claret, with the nearest lift under three minutes' walk away, breakfast and dinner every day, and a fireplace in the bar afterwards. Jackie Whyte hosts. 7 nights from £1,399. Dates: 16 Jan 2027 – 23 Jan 2027. Places: 6 places left.

Baqueira, the Spanish Pyrenees: guided mornings so you are never skiing it cold

Ski Baqueira includes five mornings of guided skiing in groups of ten at most, which answers the worry about finding your way round a mountain without your usual companion. The Hotel Tuc Blanc is about 80 metres from the gondola, so you walk out in your boots, and the 166km of slopes stay uncrowded.

This week is hosted by Rob Thompson. 7 nights from £1,449. Dates: 14 Mar 2027 – 21 Mar 2027. Places: 17 places left.

Madonna, the Dolomites: tree-lined runs and a family-run hotel

Ski Madonna is based at the family-run Hotel Pinzolo Dolomiti, with breakfast and dinner every day and a hotel shuttle to the lifts each morning. The tree-lined pistes above Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio suit intermediates especially well. On a rest day there is an indoor ice rink and a walk round the town and its cafés.

Jamie Morris hosts. 7 nights from £1,339. Dates: 23 Jan 2027 – 30 Jan 2027. Availability: Waitlist only.

Morzine: a friendly town and a pool after skiing

Ski Morzine puts you at the Hotel Le Cret, walking distance from the Super Morzine lift, with a pool, sauna and steam room for tired legs and evening meals in the hotel. Morzine links into Les Gets and Avoriaz across 650km of the Portes du Soleil, and the local Pleney pistes are friendly for beginners and intermediates. 7 nights from £1,199. Dates: 30 Jan 2027 – 6 Feb 2027. Places: 14 places left.

Your own room, and what it costs

Every Spice holiday carries a single supplement or a cost for having a room to yourself, and our single supplement page explains exactly how it works. For many people skiing without a partner, the room of your own is part of the appeal, somewhere quiet to dry your gloves and phone home after skiing. If you have not skied for a while, our guide to a beginners ski holiday is a useful refresher, and our article on how a hosted ski week works goes through a typical day. If you are over fifty, our over 50s solo holidays page shows everything else we run.

Questions people ask

Is it odd to go on a ski holiday without my partner?

Not at all, and it is far more common than people expect. Most people on our holidays book on their own, so nobody will think twice about a partner who stayed at home.

Will people assume I am single?

Our groups are simply people who want good company on holiday, and the conversation is about the skiing, the snow and where to have lunch. You can mention your partner as much or as little as you like.

What if I am a better or weaker skier than everyone else?

The host helps people find others of a similar standard, and every resort has ski schools for lessons at most levels. You can also ski on your own for a morning and meet the group for lunch or dinner.

Could my partner come along and not ski?

Some of our resorts have plenty for a non-skier, such as the spa, ice rink and walks around Pinzolo, or the pool at the Morzine hotel. Talk to us about rooms and costs for two before you book.

How do I stay in touch with home?

The hotels at Les Arcs, Morzine and Baqueira all list free wifi among their facilities, so a call home after skiing is easy. Your host is also there through the week if anything needs sorting.

Book your ski week and tell us about home

The easiest next step is a conversation. Ring or message the team through our contact page, say which week caught your eye and that your partner will be staying at home, and we will tell you honestly which resort suits your skiing. Rob Thompson, who owns Spice Escapes and hosts the Baqueira week, is glad to talk it through, and so is anyone else on the team.
