Where you'll go
Day to Day Itinerary DAYS 1/2: Departing the UK on an overnight flight, arrive in the Maldives the next morning where you will be met by your tour leader at Male International Airport and transferred to the MV Felicity in time for lunch on board. After settling in, set off for to the southern tip of South Male Atoll where you will have your first Maldives underwater encounter! Your tour leader will provide a safety briefing on responsible snorkelling, assist you with equipment, act as your ‘spotter’ pointing out marine life that may not have caught your eye and assess the groups ability in the water. Coral reefs are fragile ecosystems so learning how to snorkel responsibly can help minimize your impact on the marine environment and protect the delicate balance of marine life. In the evening, your Tour Leader will provide an introduction to the coral reefs of the Maldives, their incredible biodiversity, and the rich marine life you are likely to encounter during the many snorkelling experiences throughout the week. The presentation will help you better understand the complex reef ecosystem, the important role coral reefs play in supporting Maldives sea life, and how to identify some of the fascinating species that call these reefs home
DAY 3
As the sun rises, we complete our first snorkel of the day before beginning our cruise to South Ari Atoll, known for its exceptional snorkelling opportunities. Late afternoon visit the local island of Dhangethi, providing a taste of local culture and Maldivian cuisine. On Dhangethi we will snorkel the seagrass beds and discover their importance to the ecosystem. Despite being one of the most valuable ecosystems on the planet, sea grass is considered unsightly, and is often deliberately removed. Gain insights into the interconnectedness of seagrass meadows, coral reefs, and the diverse marine life they support. Before returning to Felicity, we enjoyed traditional Maldivian evening tea, known as hedikaa, on the beach. After dinner, discover the work of local NGO Maldives Whale Shark Research and the whale shark snorkelling code of conduct, preparing you for our whale shark safari tomorrow!
DAY 4
Today is a dedicated whale shark safari. South Ari Atoll is well known for the possibility of encountering whale sharks particularly on the reefs behind Dhigurah. There is only one way we can spot them and that’s the old-fashioned way of being out on the boat and looking! We may see 2 or 3 sharks in half an hour or maybe none for the whole time we are searching, but the unpredictability all adds to the excitement! When we do spot them, following the whale shark code of conduct we will snorkel alongside them. A truly magical experience. This evening your Tour Leader will introduce you to the work of the Manta Trust. Providing an insight into their environmental monitoring, manta ray studies and how to have a positive encounter.
DAY 5
Today we cruise to Rangali Madivaru (manta point). Whilst never a guarantee we may be lucky enough to encounter manta rays and will follow the manta ray code of conduct if we are lucky enough to encounter them. In the afternoon, we visit an uninhabited island. The island's beaches will invite you to wander and explore their hidden corners. Unfortunately, plastic is often not hidden and we will spend time completing a beach clean-up activity, ensuring we leave a positive mark on the island before back across to the eastern side of Ari Atoll.
DAY 6
This morning, we will aim to provide a further two snorkelling opportunities at reefs where turtles are commonly seen. It is not uncommon to spot a turtle on the ocean surface as it comes up to breathe but the best chance of encounters will be while snorkelling. When we do spot them, following the turtle code of conduct we will snorkel alongside them. A truly magical experience. As an integral part of the data capture process, you'll actively assist the Olive Ridley Project researcher in gathering vital information like size, behaviour, and markings. This hands-on involvement directly contributes to their ongoing research efforts, and later this evening you will hear more about their research efforts and how it contributes to both a greater understanding of the species and environmental decisions being made by Maldivian government bodies.
DAY 7
We start our cruise back towards Male today. Two snorkelling activities provide an opportunity to observe different coral reef formations, encounter a variety of fish species, and appreciate the intricate balance of these underwater ecosystems. Late afternoon we visit the local island of Gulhi. This tiny quiet island’s main economy is fishing and it is also home to the oldest dry dock boat yard in the Maldives. Stand in awe at the size of the boats under renovation in the boat yard, chat with the ladies sweeping the streets and finally refresh yourself with a cool Kurumba (coconut). In the evening, a Maldivian theme night is organized on board, featuring a Bodu Beru musical performance, showcasing traditional Maldivian music and dance. This cultural immersion further deepens participants' understanding of the Maldivian culture and enhances their overall learning experience.
DAY 8
We start the day with another snorkelling session, allowing you to further explore the marine life and habitats of the Maldives. Keep your eyes open for turtles, sharks and rays you never know what may be in the blue! On route to Hulhumale we visit Villimale, where we meet local NGO Save the Beach and witness how the broader socio-economic factors and development is affecting marine conservation local communities. We also have the opportunity to snorkel Villimale coral nursery, one of Save the Beach’s key projects.
DAY 9
Following breakfast, we leave the boat and head for our speedboat transfer to Fulhadhoo. Check-in and the its time to start relaxing. DAYS 10/11: Free to relax, discover the island or join one of the optional excursions.
DAY 12
Following a leisurely breakfast we join the midday speedboat transfer back to Male. On arrival you will be met by your guide for a 4 hour Male City Walking Tour where you will spend time discovering the key points of interest in Male’ including the fish market, local market, President's Palace and Friday Mosque. Take a few steps off the beaten track and stop for a drink at a café, frequented by locals. Complete your tour with a bird’s eye view from one of the city’s tallest buildings. Then it's on to our hotel for the night.
DAY 13
Breakfast then transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. It is the goal to maximize the chances of marine life encounters and in order to do that, we will adapt the itinerary to take into account conditions, weather forecasts and presence of marine life. Every effort will be made to operate all packages as communicated on your itinerary, however, in the interest of the safety and comfort of guests changes may be made to the excursions offered based on the weather and or sea conditions.

SNORKELING & FREEDIVING
1. Do I need to be an experienced swimmer for snorkelling?
You should be comfortable and confident in the water, but no SCUBA certification is required. Life jackets and buoyancy aids are provided, and our expert tour leaders monitor safety at all times. The Maldives can experience strong currents, even on the calmest of days and currents may change during a snorkelling activity. It is always possible we may encounter the occasional day of rough seas and therefore an ability to swim unaided is essential.
2. How fit do I need to be for a conservation cruise?
Snorkelling trips usually last around 45 minutes, with options to exit earlier if needed. The cruise is physical, with lots of swimming and snorkelling, exit from the water and back onto the boat involves a boat ladder and we also cross between our 'home' base Felicity and our Dhoni regularly throughout the day. A moderate level of fitness is sufficient.
3. Do I need to bring my own snorkelling equipment?
Personal snorkelling equipment is recommended. There is limited snorkelling equipment on board and if necessary, we can arrange rental equipment for you if arranged in advance. By bringing along your own mask and snorkel, you be assured your mask fits your face properly and is comfortable and less likely to have leakage, it will also lower any health associated risks. Should you require to rent fins please provide your show size prior to arrival.

5. How do I get from the airport to the boat and back?
The vessel is moored in Hulhumale lagoon on arrival day and overnight on day seven prior to departure day. Airport transfers are included on arrival and departure days. A Secret Paradise tour leader will meet you at the airport. Transfers are made as a group, typically at midday. Your final pre-arrival email will include exact meeting times.
6. What type of luggage and storage space is available on board?
We suggest using soft luggage or backpacks for convenience, though hard suitcases can also fit if preferred. Each cabin has plenty of space for your personal belongings, so it really comes down to your own preference.
ON BOARD EXPERIENCE
7. How many guests will be onboard at a time?
The maximum number of guests is 12, supported by 2 in-water staff and 6 boat crew including a chef.
8. Is there Wi-Fi on board / can I stay in touch with people back home?
There is limited Wi-Fi available on board the vessel. Mobile phone use is possible, but roaming charges can be high. For internet access, we recommend purchasing an international SIM card, eSIM, or a local SIM at the airport prior to boarding. Please note that internet connectivity is dependent on local network coverage from nearby islands. While anchored or near inhabited islands, you will be able to connect, but during crossings between atolls there will be no mobile or internet signal.
9. What key items should I pack?
We recommend packing reef-friendly sunscreen (also available to purchase on board), light and comfortable casual clothing, swimwear, and a rash vest for added sun protection. Ear plugs may be useful for light sleepers. Shoes are not required, as a relaxed barefoot experience is encouraged on board.
10. Can dietary requirements or allergies be accommodated?
Dietary requirements and allergies can be accommodated if communicated in advance. For sustainability reasons, we do not serve beef or imported seafood. All food served on board is Halal. Gluten-free options can be provided, but fully gluten-free products are difficult to source in the Maldives, so items like pasta, flour, and bread may not have exact replacements. We recommend that guests anticipate a simpler menu than they may be used to at home and consider bringing along any favourite snacks.
11. What about drinking water?
Fresh drinking water is available on board throughout your stay via convenient refill dispensers. We encourage guests to bring a reusable water bottle to help reduce single-use plastic and make it easy to stay hydrated during your trip.
12. Are beach towels included?
Yes, beach towels along with bed sheets and towels are provided. Towels are changed once per week. A quick dry towel is a worthwhile addition.
13. What electrical sockets and voltage are available on board?
The boat is fitted with international electrical sockets, and most plugs can be used without an adapter. Power is available for charging personal devices, though guests are encouraged to use electricity mindfully.
14. Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is prohibited in cabins, bathrooms, the lounge, kitchen, and open-air communal areas. There is a smoking area located at the bow of the vessel. Please ensure cigarette butts are disposed of responsibly in the containers provided.
15. How do I pay onboard?
Payment onboard is in cash (USD or Maldivian Rufiyaa). In Male, credit cards, USD, and local currency are widely accepted. ATMs are available in Hulhumale and the airport (local currency dispensed only).
16. Is the boat noisy at night?
As with all vessels, some level of noise is unavoidable. There is always one generator running to provide air conditioning, lighting, and keep freezers operational. Being a traditional wooden boat with cabins close to the waterline, you may also notice gentle movement and the occasional creak of the wood. Most guests quickly adjust to these background sounds, which become part of the authentic small-ship experience.
17. Do cabins have en-suite bathrooms?
All cabins have their own private ensuite shower, wash basin and toilet.
HEALTH & SAFETY
18. What if there is an accident?
Accidents are rare. Follow the guidelines shared by your Tour Leader. Stay alongside your snorkel buddy, and move around the boat with care. We carry emergency equipment, medical oxygen, and have access to local island health clinics. Comprehensive travel insurance is strongly recommended. All our Tour Leaders are EFR and Lifeguard certified.
19. Does the boat carry medical supplies?
Yes, boats have first aid kits. Guests should also bring personal remedies (e.g., motion sickness tablets, after-sun lotion, band aids).
GENERAL INFORMATION
20. Are cameras available on board?
We do not provide underwater cameras for rent on board. Rental equipment is generally very difficult to obtain in the Maldives, likely due to high insurance costs versus the risk of losing gear in the ocean. Guests are encouraged to bring their own cameras or GoPros to capture personal footage or assist with data collection photography. Charging facilities are available on board. Our Tour Leaders focus on your safety in the water, supporting data collection, and ensuring you have a memorable experience. When conditions allow, they may also take photos, which can be shared with you if you bring your own USB device.
21. Is there a toilet on the support dhoni?
Yes, there is a toilet on board the support dhoni. There is a hand-held shower available to rinse off salt after swimming.
23. Can the itinerary change?
Yes. Itineraries are adapted to weather, ocean conditions, and marine life encounters. Your Tour Leader will provide updates during evening briefings.

Weather when you go
November is one of the best times to visit the Maldives, as the islands move from the wet southwest monsoon into the dry northeast monsoon season. Days are warm and sunny with average temperatures between 27°C and 30°C , and the humidity drops to much more comfortable levels. Rain showers become far less frequent than in previous months, giving way to clearer skies and plenty of sunshine. The seas also settle, creating excellent conditions for snorkelling, diving, and water sports , with water temperatures staying around 28–29°C and visibility at its best. November offers the perfect balance — lush green islands after the rains, calmer seas, and bright, clear days that mark the start of the Maldives’ peak season.
Passport validity
• Issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’) • valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’) You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.
Travel insurance
Please ensure that you have adequate personal travel insurance to suit your requirements in place before you travel. Visas You will be issued a 30-day visa on arrival in the Maldives to enter as a tourist. For further information on entry requirements and visas, contact the Maldives immigration department Traveller declaration form You must complete a traveller declaration form (IMUGA) within 96 hours before your flight arrives in the Maldives.

Recent guest feedback on food on board:
As a vegetarian, I had prepared myself for limited options, but our chef was absolutely ASTONISHING! There were always three or four vibrant dishes on the table, packed with fresh fruit and incredible flavours. I couldn't have eaten better. While the snorkelling was the main event, the food was a very close second!
Alcohol - please be aware that in the Maldives, alcohol is strictly banned in public areas and on local islands, including the capital, Malé, but is freely available on licensed resort islands, however due to the nature of this itinerary alcohol is available on board the boat, payable on board in USD cash but the local Island stay will be alcohol free. Visitors must not bring alcohol into the country; it will be confiscated by customs upon arrival and returned upon departure. Consumption of alcohol is restricted to these licensed locations, and it is illegal to be intoxicated in public or to provide alcohol to locals.

Will I be the only one on my own?
No. Almost everyone books on their own — that is the whole point of the trip. Nobody has to pair up and nobody sits on their own at dinner unless they want to.
Do I have to share a room?
Only if you want to. Sharing a twin with another solo traveller of the same sex costs nothing extra, and it is how most people keep the price down. If you would rather have a room to yourself, you can — see the single-room price on the trip you are looking at.
Is there a single supplement?
There is a charge for a room of your own and it varies a great deal by trip, so the honest answer is the figure on the holiday you are looking at rather than an average. What there is not is any obligation to pay it: sharing a twin with another solo traveller of the same sex costs nothing extra, and it is a genuine option rather than a token one.

How big is the group?
Small enough to learn everyone’s name in the first day or two. Group sizes vary by trip and are listed on each holiday.
What does the host actually do?
Your host is there to make your holiday feel easy, welcoming and fun. They travel with the group throughout the trip, help everyone get to know each other, keep things running smoothly and are there if you need anything along the way.

What age are the other travellers?
It varies by trip. Most groups span a wide range of ages with a shared interest in the destination rather than a shared birth year.
Is there a minimum age?
Yes — 18. Spice Escapes holidays are adults only.
Most people who travel with us are in their forties and beyond, but that is who books rather than a rule. There is no upper age limit, and two people travelling together do not need to be a similar age: a daughter in her thirties travelling with her mother in her sixties is an ordinary booking.
