Solo female travel Europe destinations, with a host and a group to meet

2 October 2026 · 6 min read

If you are a woman over 50 looking for solo female travel Europe destinations, the cities below are ones where Spice Escapes sends a small hosted group, so you arrive with company, eat with company when you want it, and still have your own room. You book on your own, a host travels with the group, and most of the people beside you have booked on their own too.

That last part matters more than the destination. For many women the city is never the hard bit. The hard bits are the first evening, the table for one, the walk back to the hotel after dark, and the coach tour where everyone else came as a pair. A Spice Escapes group is mixed, men and women, and it is built around people on their own. Groups are around fifteen people, and some reach twenty.

What makes a European city feel easy on your own

  • A central hotel. If the old town is a short walk away, you can go out in the evening and come back without a taxi or a long walk through streets you do not know.
  • Someone who knows the plan. Your host is with the group for the whole stay. They suggest the day, gather people for dinner and are the first person to ask when something goes wrong.
  • Free time that is truly free. You can join in all day or slip off to a gallery alone and meet everyone in the bar later. Nobody minds either way.
  • A clear answer on arrival. Some of these holidays include the transfer from the airport, and one does not. We say which below, because arriving alone is the worry women raise with us most.

Prague at Christmas, with the market on the doorstep

Prague Christmas Magic is 3 nights in the run-up to Christmas, departing 4 Dec 2026 – 7 Dec 2026, from £675. You fly from the UK and transfer to the hotel, so you are not finding your own way in on a winter evening. The hotel is Hotel Rott on the Little Square, steps from the Old Town Square market, which means a mulled wine and a look at the lights on the first night is a few minutes on foot. The suggested days take in Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral, then the lanes of Malá Strana across the river. Your host is Sally Wiltshire. Places: 6 places left.

If Christmas has become a lonely stretch since finding yourself on your own, a short break among a group is a gentle way through it.

Venice, where the ship is your hotel and dinner is sorted

On All Inclusive Treasures of Venice you sleep aboard the MS Michelangelo, moored close to St Mark's Square, for 4 nights from £929, departing 19 Nov 2026 – 23 Nov 2026. All meals, drinks at the bar and a gala dinner are included on board, so the question of where to eat alone simply does not come up. At Marco Polo airport you can wait for the rest of the group and cross to the island together by water taxi. There is an afternoon on Burano, and optional trips to the Doge's Palace, Murano and Padua for those who want them. Your host is Samantha Pike. Places: Waitlist only.

Lake Como, for a slower week with a rooftop pool

Lake Como Discovery is several nights in the city of Como, from price on request, departing dates to be confirmed. The Hotel Como is ten minutes' walk from the historic centre and has a pool on its fifth-floor roof terrace. Ferries run to Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio whenever you fancy a day on the water. Your host gathers everyone over breakfast to talk through the day, and again in the hotel bar before dinner, so there is always a table to join. Your host is one of our hosts. Places: ask us.

Como also offers both single rooms and double rooms for sole use, priced differently, which is useful if you like a bit more space. Our single supplement guide explains how we price a room to yourself.

Lisbon, for a first short break on your own

A Taste of Lisbon is 3 nights from £639, departing 15 Apr 2027 – 18 Apr 2027, at My Story Hotel Tejo beside Figueira Square, right in the downtown. Be aware that airport transfers are not included here. The quickest way in is the metro, there is a stop very close to the hotel, and you get directions for it with your joining information. One suggested day covers Alfama and Tram 28, the next Belém and its pastéis de nata. Evenings are yours, a quiet dinner or Bairro Alto. Your host is Pam Harte. Places: 8 places left.

Kraków, with history you may not want to face alone

Kraków Discovery is 4 nights from £589, departing 26 May 2027 – 30 May 2027. The hotel is a restored townhouse a few steps from the Main Market Square and around 500 metres from Wawel Castle. There are optional trips to Schindler's Factory Museum, the Wieliczka Salt Mine and Auschwitz-Birkenau, which is a full and heavy day. Plenty of women tell us that is a visit they would rather make with people around them, and talk over at dinner afterwards. The optional trips have limited places, so book them when you book the holiday. Your host is Jackie Whyte. Places: 10 places left.

Safety, and why company helps more than a guidebook

Most of what keeps a woman travelling alone comfortable is ordinary: knowing where the hotel is, having someone who knows where you are, and not having to choose between a lonely dinner and room service. A host covers all three. You are an adult on your own holiday, so nobody counts heads, but there is always someone who expects to see you at breakfast.

Questions people ask

Are these women-only holidays?

No, Spice Escapes groups are mixed, and most people in them have booked on their own. Many women prefer that, because it feels like a normal group of friends rather than a separate category. You spend your time with whoever you get on with.

Will I have to share a room with a stranger?

No, you have a room to yourself. That room carries a single supplement or a sole-use cost, and we show it plainly when you enquire.

Who meets me at the airport, and what if my flight is late?

It depends on the holiday, which is why each one above says how you get in. If your flight is delayed, tell your host so the group knows to expect you later.

Do I have to join in with everything?

Not at all. Days are suggestions, and many women spend a morning alone and rejoin the group for lunch or dinner. The host simply keeps the door open.

Is going on your own as a woman safe in these cities?

These are busy, well-visited European cities, and our hotels are chosen to be central so you are rarely far from the old town. Ordinary city sense applies, as it would at home. Having a group and a host around in the evening is the part most women say makes the difference.

Talk to us about which city suits you

The quickest next step is to tell us which of these you are weighing up, and what you are unsure about, whether that is arriving alone, the cost of a room to yourself or simply whether you will fit in. The people who answer are the people who run these holidays, and Rob Thompson, who owns Spice Escapes, hosts some of them himself. Send us an enquiry and we will come back to you with places, prices and an honest answer.
