Solo holidays for women over 50 and 60, hosted in small groups
A hosted small group holiday lets a woman over 50 or 60 travel alone without arranging everything herself. You book one place, a named host is with the group from the first day, and the days mix planned outings with time that is yours. Spice Escapes holidays are not women-only: they are open to adults of any age travelling on their own, with no upper age limit. Below is how it works, where to go in Europe, what a room of your own costs, and six holidays that suit.
How a hosted holiday works when you go alone
Your host travels with the group from the first day to the last. They book the table for the first evening and make the introductions, so you do not walk into a restaurant wondering where to sit. After that you join in as much or as little as you like. Tell the host your plans, so nobody waits for you, and take the afternoon for yourself.
Who else is going? A small group of people travelling on their own, and a host. Where we have the figure, each holiday page shows how many have booked so far, under Who else is going.
"I love the fact that I feel so safe and welcome on a Spice Escapes holiday." A traveller, 2026.
Where to travel alone in Europe
For a first trip on your own, a city with a central hotel and a short flight is the simplest start. You can walk to the sights, find your way back, and eat with the group or on your own.
A Taste of Lisbon is 3 nights in central Lisbon, at a hotel with views of São Jorge Castle and a short walk from Tram 28. One day might be Alfama and the viewpoints, the next Belém and its custard tarts, and the evenings are yours. Airport transfers are not included, because the metro is the quickest way in and stops close to the hotel. It runs 15 Apr 2027 – 18 Apr 2027, hosted by Pam Harte, from £639. See our Portugal page for more.
Ancient Athens is 4 nights in a central hotel near the Acropolis, with the airport transfer included. On the first evening the group walks to a local restaurant together to get to know each other. After that there is an optional guided tour of the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora, an optional food tour, and time to explore on your own. It runs 10 Mar 2027 – 14 Mar 2027, hosted by Jackie Whyte, from £579. Our Greece page has more.
All Inclusive Perfect Paris is 3 nights on a river ship moored in Paris, with full board and most drinks on board. A guided coach tour of the city, a walking tour of Montmartre and a dinner cruise on the Seine are included, and you can go by Eurostar instead of flying. It runs 3 Feb 2027 – 6 Feb 2027, hosted by Samantha Pike, from £679. See our France page for more.

A week with something to do
A holiday built around an activity gives the days a shape, and conversation starts easily over a shared interest.
Spanish Drawing and Painting Break with Tuition is 7 nights at a large house in northern Spain, with tuition from the painter Dale Scott, sketch pads and a canvas provided. Lunch is at the house, or a picnic on the days out, and the holiday page lists everything else that is included. It is for beginners as well as practised painters. Most bedrooms share a bathroom, and an en-suite room costs extra. It runs 25 Apr 2027 – 2 May 2027, from £929. A traveller in 2024 called it "a good chance to try out different artistic mediums with some good all-round tuition from Dale."
Cantabrian Walking Week stays at the same house and is walked at a sociable pace, with example routes from under three miles to nearly nine. It runs 9 May 2027 – 16 May 2027, hosted by Jen & Jim, from £999. There are more on our walking holidays page.
If you would rather have sun and sea, Croatian Chillout is 7 nights on the island of Lošinj in Croatia, half board, with a boat day round the islands and coastal paths to walk. The transfer from Pula airport takes about three hours. It runs 1 May 2027 – 8 May 2027, hosted by Jackie Whyte, from £869.
Single rooms, and coming with someone
Every holiday on sale charges a single supplement for a room of your own, and the figure is different on each one. Our single rooms and supplements page lists them all, so there is no surprise at the payment page. On some departures, two people sharing a twin or double room avoid it, which is worth knowing if a friend or a daughter might come too. Our mother and daughter holidays page lists the departures where two can share that way.
Questions people ask
Are there solo holidays for women over 50?
Yes. Spice Escapes runs hosted small group holidays for people travelling on their own, so a woman over 50 books one place and joins a group with a named host from the first day. The holidays have no upper age limit, and the groups are mixed, men and women.
What are the best solo holidays for women over 60?
The best solo holiday for a woman over 60 is one where she chooses the pace and has company when she wants it. Spice Escapes hosted holidays include short city breaks in Lisbon, Athens and Paris, a painting week in northern Spain and half board weeks in the sun, all with no upper age limit. Each holiday page sets out the days one by one, so you can judge the walking before you book.
Where should a single woman travel alone?
For a first trip alone, a European city with a central hotel and a short flight is the simplest start, and Lisbon, Athens and Paris all fit. On a Spice Escapes city break a host is with the group from the first day, so there is company at dinner when you want it and free time when you do not.
Are there holidays for single women in their 50s?
Yes. A hosted small group holiday is designed for people who book on their own, so a single woman in her 50s joins a group of people who have done the same. Spice Escapes holidays have a named host from the first day, no upper age limit and a published single supplement for a room of your own.
Are there holidays for mature single ladies from the UK?
Yes. Spice Escapes is a UK company running hosted small group holidays for people travelling on their own, with no upper age limit and a named host from the first day. The groups are mixed, men and women, and every single supplement is published on the Spice Escapes single rooms page.
Ask us anything first
If you would like to know how many have booked, how the first evening works or whether a single room is still free, ask. Ring or write to the office from our contact page, and choose a phone call back if you would rather talk. You can also ask Rosie, our automated assistant, in the chat on this page about dates and prices, and one of the team can pick the conversation up. Nothing is booked by asking. If it is your first holiday on your own, our first-timers' page has the questions people ask before booking, and our page on solo holidays for the over 50s, 60s and 70s covers how much each kind of holiday asks of you.
