Winter sun holidays for solo travellers, with a host and a small group

2 October 2026 · 5 min read

Winter sun holidays for solo travellers are easier with a host and a small group: someone to have dinner with, and nothing to organise. Spice Escapes runs hosted winter sun holidays for people travelling on their own, from an adults-only all inclusive week in Fuerteventura to late sun in Malta, city breaks in Seville and Athens as the days lengthen, and a long-haul week in the Maldives. Here is each one, with what it includes and what it costs today.

Why winter sun is better with a group

A resort hotel can feel lonely when you are on your own. The pool is calm, the restaurant is half empty, and the couples keep to themselves. With a hosted group there is always somebody to sit with at dinner and somebody to walk the beach with, and a host who knows the island. On the days you want to read by the pool and talk to nobody, that is fine too. Most people book on their own.

All inclusive in Fuerteventura

All Inclusive Fuerteventura Winter Sun and Fun is the one for the middle of winter, in the Canary Islands. You stay at an adults-only four-star hotel (local rating) with a sea-view room, close enough to Jandía Beach for a stroll whenever you fancy one. All meals and drinks at the hotel are included, so there is no bill to split, and the spa, the jacuzzi and the pool are there for the days you do nothing at all. It is 7 nights, 30 Jan 2027 – 6 Feb 2027, hosted by Steve Dell, from £1,199. Availability today: 3 places left.

Late sun in Malta

Maltese Chillout is 7 nights at Number 11, an adults-only hotel in St Julian's with a rooftop pool terrace. Some evening meals are included, so most nights are already arranged, and there is a ferry day over to Gozo and a day set aside to do nothing. It runs 17 Oct 2026 – 24 Oct 2026, hosted by Jackie Whyte, from £1,288. Our Malta page has the details.

City sun as the days lengthen: Seville and Athens

Two short breaks run once the sun has warmth in it again, and they suit anyone who would rather walk a city than lie on a beach.

Surprising Seville is 4 nights at a hotel minutes from the cathedral and the Barrio de Santa Cruz, with a two-day hop-on hop-off bus ticket included so you can pace yourself. The Alcázar and an evening of flamenco are there as optional extras if you want them. It runs 4 Mar 2027 – 8 Mar 2027, hosted by Jackie Whyte, from £549. More in Spain.

Ancient Athens is 4 nights with a host, starting with dinner together at a local restaurant. There is an optional food tour with more than eighteen tastings, and the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora with a licensed guide if you want the history. It runs 10 Mar 2027 – 14 Mar 2027, hosted by Jackie Whyte, from £579. Our Greece page lists the rest.

Long haul: the Maldives

Maldives Wildlife Cruise and Beach Chillout is the big one: a week on MV Felicity, a wooden boat that takes twelve guests at most, snorkelling with turtles, reef sharks and rays, then three nights on the island of Fulhadhoo with nothing scheduled. It is 12 nights, 27 Nov 2027 – 9 Dec 2027, hosted by Jonathan Banks, from £4,199. Our relaxation holidays page has others like it.

Rooms and what they cost

Every holiday on sale charges a single supplement for a room of your own, and the figure is different on each one. We publish them all on our single rooms and supplements page, so you can see the cost before you choose. On some departures, two people sharing a twin or double room avoid it, which helps if a friend or a sister is coming with you.

What the host does

Your host travels with the group from the first day to the last. They make the introductions, book the table for the first evening, sort out problems, and know how each day runs. On a beach week that mostly means a friendly face at dinner and somebody to ask, and on a city break it means somebody who knows the way.

Questions people ask

Where is the best winter sun for solo travellers?

The Canary Islands are one of the warmest places within about four hours of the UK in the depths of winter, and a hosted all inclusive week there takes care of company and meals. Spice Escapes runs an adults-only all inclusive week in Fuerteventura with a host, and hosted city breaks in Seville and Athens.

Are all inclusive holidays good for solo travellers?

They can be, because every meal is already paid for and there is no bill to split. On a hosted all inclusive week, such as Spice Escapes' Fuerteventura holiday, a host also makes the introductions, so you have company at the table.

Is there winter sun with no single supplement?

Every Spice Escapes holiday on sale charges a single supplement for a room of your own, and the figure for each one is published on its single rooms page. On some departures, two people sharing a twin or double room avoid it.

Are there adults-only winter sun holidays for people on their own?

Yes. Spice Escapes' Fuerteventura week is at an adults-only all inclusive hotel, and its Malta week is at an adults-only hotel in St Julian's. Both are hosted, and most people book on their own.

How big are the groups?

Most Spice Escapes groups are around fifteen people, and some reach twenty, with a host travelling with them. On the Maldives boat the whole group is twelve at most.

Ask us before you book

If you are not sure which week of sun would suit you, ask. Ring or write to the office from our contact page, and choose a phone call back if you would rather talk. You can also ask Rosie, our automated assistant, in the chat on this page about dates and prices, and one of the team can pick the conversation up. Nothing is booked by asking. If this would be your first holiday with a group, our first-timers' page answers the questions people ask before they book, and our page on solo holidays for the over 50s, 60s and 70s sets out how much each kind of holiday asks of you.
