Beach holidays for singles over 50: sun, sea and a group to come back to
The best beach holidays for singles over 50 give you the sea, the sun lounger and a quiet book, and then someone to talk to over dinner when the day is done. Spice Escapes runs small hosted group holidays by the sea for people in their 40s, 50s and 60s, with a host who travels with you, a group of around fifteen people, and some reach twenty, and a room of your own to go back to.
Most people book on their own. That is the thing worth knowing first, because the real worry with a solo beach holiday is rarely the beach. It is the hotel restaurant at eight in the evening, the table for one, the couples on the next loungers, and the feeling that everyone else arrived with someone. On a Spice Escapes holiday the group has mostly arrived the same way, and the host makes sure nobody is left on the edge of it.
Company when you want it, a lounger when you do not
A beach week with us is not a timetable. The host suggests a walk, a boat day or a long lunch, and you say yes or no. Plenty of people spend a morning swimming on their own, then turn up for a drink before dinner and find the group has already saved them a seat.
You also keep your privacy. Everyone has their own room, and that comes with a single supplement or room-to-yourself cost, which we set out plainly on our single supplement page.
Fuerteventura: a winter week on a long beach, all included
All Inclusive Fuerteventura Winter Sun & Fun is the easiest beach holiday we run for someone travelling alone. It is 7 nights at the Occidental Jandía Royal Level, an adults-only four-star hotel looking over Jandía Beach, one of the longest on the island. All meals and drinks are included at the hotel, so there is no bill to split and no deciding where to eat each night.
You get a sea-view room, the Sanagua Spa with its sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, and two outdoor pools, one of them heated. The days are yours: a stroll along the sand, a massage, or a scenic tour of southern Fuerteventura if you feel like moving. Your host is Steve Dell. Dates: 30 Jan 2027 – 6 Feb 2027. Prices from £1,199. Places: 3 places left.

Croatia in the spring: coves, clear water and a boat day
Croatian Chillout takes you to the island of Lošinj in the Adriatic, a quieter corner of Croatia, for 7 nights. You stay half board at the Vitality Hotel Punta beside Veli Lošinj, so breakfast and dinner are taken care of, and there is an infinity seawater pool for the days you would rather not move far.
The suggested week moves gently from beach to beach: Rovenska and Punta beaches early on, a coastal path to quieter coves, and a swim at Čikat Bay after a walk or cycle into Mali Lošinj, about 3km away. One full day is a small boat trip round the archipelago, swimming in secluded coves, with a chance of spotting the bottlenose dolphins these waters are known for. Pack water shoes, as many beaches are rocky or pebbled. Your host is Jackie Whyte, departing 1 May 2027 – 8 May 2027, from £869, with 13 places left places.
Malta in the autumn: a rooftop pool and the sea on the doorstep
Maltese Chillout is several nights at Number 11, an adults-only hotel in St Julian's with a rooftop pool terrace and the seafront a short walk away. Four evening meals are included, so most nights are already arranged.
The suggested days mix the sea with a little discovery: Spinola Bay and Balluta Bay on the first evening, the Blue Grotto and the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, and a ferry day to Gozo. One day is set aside to do absolutely nothing. Hosted by one of our hosts. Dates: dates to be confirmed. From price on request. Availability: ask us.
The Maldives: whale sharks, then three quiet nights on the sand
For a once-in-a-while trip, Maldives Wildlife Cruise & Beach Chillout runs for 12 nights. Seven of them are on MV Felicity, a wooden boat that takes twelve guests at most, snorkelling with a tour leader who points out the marine life you might miss. A whole day is given to looking for whale sharks off Dhigurah.
The last three nights are on the island of Fulhadhoo with nothing scheduled, which is as close to a pure beach rest as anything we offer. Your host is Jonathan Banks. Dates: 27 Nov 2027 – 9 Dec 2027. From £4,199. Places: 2 places left.
A quieter coast: reading by the beaches of green Spain
Not everyone wants heat. Read, Relax & Restore: A Week in Spain's Green North is 7 nights in a large house in Cantabria where every room is let for one person. Breakfast, a light lunch and dinner are provided each day, with wine and beer you help yourself to, and there are bikes at the house and a very friendly resident dog.
The beaches of the Oyambre natural park, with Comillas and San Vicente de la Barquera, are about a 20 minute drive away, and Santander is around 50 minutes. Hosted by Jackie Whyte, departing 6 Jun 2027 – 13 Jun 2027, from £969. For more on that coastline, see our guide to northern Spain holidays and its best beaches, or browse every holiday in Spain.
What the host does on a beach week
The host travels with the group, and on a beach holiday that means the small things that make being on your own easy: a welcome drink on the first night so you know faces before breakfast, a plan for anyone who wants company on a walk or a boat trip, and a seat kept at dinner.
If this would be your first holiday without a partner or a friend, our page for first-time solo travellers walks through what happens from booking to the first evening, and group holidays for people travelling on their own explains how the groups come together. You can see every relaxing trip on our chillout and relaxation holidays page, and all our over 50s solo holidays in one place.
Questions people ask
Will I be the only one on my own?
Very unlikely. Most people who book a Spice Escapes holiday book on their own, so arriving solo is the normal way to join a group. The host makes the introductions on the first evening.
Do I have to join in with everything?
No. The beach weeks are built around free time, and the host's suggestions are offers, not orders. Many people swim or read on their own during the day and join the group for dinner.
Is there a single supplement on beach holidays?
Yes, every holiday carries a single supplement or room-to-yourself cost, because you have a room of your own. We show it clearly on each holiday page and on our single supplement page, so you can compare properly before you book.
Which beach holiday is the most relaxing?
The all-inclusive week in Fuerteventura asks the least of you, with every meal and drink at the hotel and a long beach in front of it. The last three nights of the Maldives trip are also kept completely free.
Are the flights included?
Ask us about the holiday you are looking at, as the arrangements vary from trip to trip. Our flight-inclusive holidays are protected under ATOL licence 9046.
Talk to us before you decide
If one of these beach weeks has caught your eye, the next step is a conversation, not a booking form. Ask for Rob Thompson, who owns Spice Escapes and hosts holidays himself, or any of the team, and ask the question most people start with: what is the group usually like on this trip? We will tell you honestly how the holiday runs and which beach suits the rest you are after. Get in touch with the Spice Escapes team and we will take it from there.
